HIGHLIGHTS

  • Switch has sold a total 10.80M in the previous fiscal year

  • Switch sells 1.26m units during Q4 (35.7%% down YoY)

  • Switch LTD sales have reached 152.12M units

Switch hardware forecast was revised down from 12.5m to 11m during the Q3 report. In the end, the system came just short—missing that revised goal by about 200k units. Nintendo projects 4.5m Switch 1 units sold during the next fiscal year. I think they could do a lot more than that with aggressive bundling and price drops. Whether the Switch can ultimately reach that new PS2 benchmark of 160m units remains to be seen! Nintendo did meet their reduced software total of 150m, ending the year with 155.41m software units for the year.

Looking ahead, Nintendo is projecting 4.5 million Switch 1 units sold for the next fiscal year. Personally, I think they could surpass that with some smart moves—like aggressive bundling or strategic price drops.

The Nintendo Switch is now in it’s 9th year on the market. If the current model hits Nintendo’s fiscal year forecast of 4.5 million units, that would bring the Switch’s lifetime total to around 156.62m by this time next year. I still think it has a real shot at reaching that new, extended Sony PS2 milestone of 160m units. There's still plenty of room for Nintendo to position the original Switch as a super accessible entry point into their ecosystem—and I really hope they lean into that opportunity.

Additionally, Nintendo forecasts 15m Switch 2 units and 45m pieces of software to be sold between June launch and end of fiscal year in March…
